Fateh Chand College for Women, Hisar owes its origin to Late Rai Fateh Chand, a retired irrigation engineer of Lahore, who, in his last will, created a Trust of his property, to establish a college at Lahore for the education of Hindu girls and women. The college started in 1935 at Lahore has since been striving for a happy synthesis of western learning and Hindu culture especially in regard to womanly ideals. After the partition this college was re-established in 1954 at Hisar. The credit goes to Late Pandit Thakur Dass Bhargava, Seth Jaswant Rai, Pandit Nanak Chand, Seth Mahesh Chander, Bakshi Ram Kishan Ji and Babu Mahabir Prasad Jain. Their unending efforts helped the institution to re-establish in Hisar with the same aims and objectives. The college founded in 1935 in Lahore and in 1954 in Hisar now occupies a unique place amongst the educational institutions of the region. Under the guidance of Babu Mahabir Prasad Jain, honest intentions and hard work of Dr. Rajender Prasad and founder Principal Bhai Bal Mukandji (1956-1958) this college became popular in cities and villages of Punjab and Haryana and girls started coming here for education. Seth Mahesh Chander (Grandson of Rai Fateh Chand) and Mr. Anand Parkash Bhargava remained very active members of the managing committee throughout their lives. Ms. Janki Chopra, the second principal of the college took the institution to great heights. Under her able and dynamic leadership the college made all- round progress. Known for her strict discipline, she was revered by teachers and students alike. The college was fortunate to have such an enterprising personality at the helm of affairs. During her tenure the college marched ahead and earned a name and a place of pride. She served as principal of F.C. College from 1958 to 1979. After her retirement she was appointed member of the Trust Society and General Secretary of local Governing Body of F.C. College for Women, Hisar. Dr. Janak Narendra was appointed principal of the college in Nov 1979. During her tenure as principal (1979-1996) two new faculties – Music (Vocal) and Commercial Arts were introduced. Multi-purpose hall was also built during her time. Mrs. Satya Bhaskar was appointed principal of the college in March 1996. During her tenure (1996-1999) as principal Computer Centre, Functional English, Old Students’ Association and Commerce faculty were commenced. Multi-purpose hall was made sound proof and new library building was started by her efforts. After the retirement of Mrs. Satya Bhaskar, Mrs. Shashi Bagria took over the charge as acting principal in Nov 1999. During her term the work of Functional English Lab was completed and the foundation stone of new library building was laid down. She retired in January 2000 and Mrs. Gita Davar took over the charge as acting principal. She maintained a disciplined atmosphere in the college. The new library building was completed during her tenure. Dr. (Mrs. ) Shamim Sharma joined F.C.College as principal on 21.6.2001. She is a member of ISBTI, and was honored by the Governor for donating blood for more than 20 times. She is a regular columnist in Dainik Tribune and member of almost all the social and literary organizations of the city. She is the author of three books - Ajanmi beti ki chiththi, Chaupal ke makhol and Hastakshar. Objective viewpoint, positive thinking and quick decision make her a good administrator. All-round development of the students and overall progress of the college is her main concern.
